Threats to Sejdinović and Gruhonjić, as well as to their family members, were sent by anonymous letter on NDNV address in Novi Sad. Letter called for president Sejdinović to resign if him and Gruhonjić do no want to „be found swimming in the Danube“.
Since hate speech, nationality based offences and calls for violence against Nedim Sejdinović and Dinko Gruhonjić have been periodically repeated in last few years through social networks and certain Serbian media with the goal to stop their critical journalistic analyses of Serbian recent political scene, we find that these threats need to be stopped and allow our colleagues' work to be free, dignified and safe.
Representatives of previously mentioned media, participants of seminar within the project „Western Balkan's Regional Platform for Advocating Media Freedom and Journalist' Safety“, express their full solidarity with journalists Sejdinović and Gruhonjić and call for police and legal Serbian bodies to conduct urgent and thorough investigation as well as to identify the author of threatening letter. By efficient investigation and punishment of perpetrators Serbian administration would finally show democratic orientation and tendency to European integration. And in Europe freedom of expression and safety of journalists are considered to be basic human rights and values beyond any question.
