Former Minister of Agriculture Tolusic lost a lawsuit against journalist Goran Gazdek

The Municipal Court in Virovitica issued a first-instance verdict acquitting journalist and CJA vice president Goran Gazdek of charges for violating the reputation and honor of former Croatian Minister of Agriculture and former Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Tolusic.

As a reminder, this was a private lawsuit by which the former Minister of Agriculture Tomislav Tolušić claimed from the editor of the Virovitica.net portal and vice president of the Croatian Journalists' Association (CJA) Goran Gazdek 180 daily incomes (approx. 40,000 HRK) for violating individual's rights.

Gazdek, in his comment on the results of the Dec 23rd, 2019 presidential elections, called Tomislav Tolusic, Ivica Kirin and Josip Djakic "kabadahije"(turkish) in a "strong HDZ pashaluq", which offended Tolusic so much that he decided to make up for the psychological pain he suffered - with a law suit claiming compensation.

In addition to this private lawsuit, Tolušić sued the publisher of the Virovitica.net portal for two other articles, demanding 40,000 HRK.

Considering the series of lawsuits filed by former Minister Tolusic against the Croatian media, this case is in the focus of interest of the Croatian Journalists' Association (CJA), so the discussion was followed by observers from the professional association.
