Her Excellency Astrid Versto, Norwegian ambassador to Croatia, MS Fremtidena Katrine Strøm, journalist and newspaper editor, Eivind Lid, executive director of the Norwegian Institute for Journalism and Frode Rekve from the same Institute took active part in presenting the project along with Saša Leković, CJA president and MS Sanja Despot, forum.tm and Faktograf. hr portals’ journalist.
The CJA president pointed out that this project is an important contribution to journalists' education and adjustment to more and more demanding media industry. „Within this Center there will be dozens of trainings for our members and other journalists in next six months“, said Saša Leković. He added it was just the first stage as the Center is planned to open consultation for journalists who want to apply for funding and in the next stage there are plans to open co-working space in the Journalist Building for freelancers and non-profit media journalists, as well as for foreign journalists and correspondents.
Industry in crisis, not journalism
Eivind Lid pointed out how important it was for the journalists to acquire new knowledge and skills. He stated that „it is media industry that is in crisis, not journalism“, and that in European developed countries there is strong need for multi-qualified journalists, able to produce high quality products. „It is not journalism in crisis, media industry is. It has to find new ways of attracting money and transform classic business model in this new and brave digital world“, he said.
„A journalist is expected to have all these knowledges: to write, to shoot, to edit, to take pictures, to be ethical… And that is not possible without education“, Lid noted. He added that in the Norwegian Institute they have 11 employees and 40 years of experience in educating journalists. With all that experience they might help develop this valuable CJA's Center.
