Press release

HRT Program has been deliberately destructed

07.07.2016.

The Croatian Journalists' Association (CJA) strongly protests against deliberate destruction of Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) Program executed by acting management of this public radio-television. For these radical changes, going as far as the autumn program plan, this acting management has no power of authorization whatsoever.

Changes at the Third Radio and TV Program can be considered culturocide and follows attitude of Minister of Culture Zlatko Hasanbegović, expressed in interview to Glas Koncila (Catholic Church review) three years ago: „If someone does not understand what I am talking about he/she should listen to Third Radio and TV Program and see ‘post-modern’ neo-Yugoslav ‘deconstruction’ of Croatian national and cultural identity; of course, not financed by certain funds any more, but by Croatian tax payers.“

Alarming attack against professionalism at Third Radio Program has been unluckily blurred by ruining of Third TV Program, more visible to the general public; that program has in very short period become very close to top TV programs like Arte.

According to CJA sources, acting HRT editors stated that Third Radio Program was the most passionate one and that they would cut the roots of activism in that newsroom.

We find that Third Program has just become activistic, passionate and non-professional. In that new program valuable documentary contents were cancelled and replaced with talk-shows of extremely religious and ideological character.

Consequences will be long-lasting because cultural continuity, created by decades of high quality professional journalists, theoreticians and academics of various interests, artists and philosophers, is now ruined.

The latest attacks on Third Radio Program have been done by cancelling Ivica Prtenjača’s (writer) show „Morning at Third“, show most listened to at HRT, and cancelling two shows of Ljubica Letinić, editor and journalist: „Audio.doc“ and „Hidden side of the day“. For the last one (“Mislaid maps“ as part of Audio.doc) Ljubica Letinić won CJA Award this year. Both shows were cancelled without any explanation.
